CF Card Error

Filmed all day with the C300. No problem at all. Looked at the media and it looked fine in the camera.
While transferring it to computer, about 5 sec in to the transfer it unmounted itself and will now not mount with any reader and not even in the camera.

The card:
- Sandisk 32 GB 90MB/s
- I used about 12GB of the 32 on the card.
- The card was about 7 months old, and not extremely much used.

Since it does not mount at all, recovery software is not an option.

How are your experiences sending a card like the one above to a well renowned expensive hardware-method recover company? Do you think they might be able to fix it?

And yeah....from now on. Dual cards all the time

CF card issues

I have recently had an issue where whilst downloading footage from card reader to hard drive the process stops with a warning sign popping up on the mac saying something along the lines of "can't complete the operation because some data in ""whatever file number"" can't be read or written. (error code - 36) each time I have narrowed the problem down to one or other particular MXF file on the card and they won't play back on camera and cannot be copied singularly. Everything else on the card is fine. I normally shoot duplicate cards so this has not caused me a massive problem but if I had been shooting on a single card I would have had a real headache by now. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Not sure at present whether it is a camera or card issue. So far it has happened on the same card which is a Sandisk extreme pro 90MB/s. It would be great to hear if anyone else has had any problems like this and if they got to the bottom of it.

HDMI-Out on C300 Issue

Hey Guys,

New to this forum but coming in with a problem. the HDMI out on my C300 is no longer outputting a signal. Tried a variety of monitor/cables and nothing. Worked one day when I plugged in an external EVF (Kinotehnik), and when I came back to it after 4 days of no usage it (the HDMI Out) no longer functioned at all.

I did a Menu Reset as well as a Button Reset (located above the Slot Select button. Nothing.

Anyone come across this before? Am I boned on this one, as in I have to send it in? Or is there something I'm totally missing here.

Also, is the C300 known for it's HDMI port crapping out so quickly. I've had this camera less than a year and it's a phenomenal piece of machinery, but it really hasn't been used that aggressively.

I will NOTE that when an HDMI cable is plugged in, it is a bit wiggle and loose in there ... it's not falling out, but it doesn't feel solid either.

Any insight/experience helps~

Thanks Guys,

Hello everybody,

I am currently testing to use the Canon C300 in "Cinema Locked" Mode and recording the Videosignal via HD-SDI to an external recorder (AJA KIPRO set to PRORES 422 HQ).
I would like to know if the benefits of working in "Cinema Locked" Mode can be recorded with the AJA - or does the AJA "legalize" the wide gamut / apply a LUT / etc.?

Best wishes and kind regards,

I had to hire a couple extra C300's for a multi camera shoot and the hire company apologised that they had no cameras left as they all were in maintenance due to dirt on the ND filters which are inaccessible to cleaning.
Problem using Samsung full HD monitor via HDMI...

I bought a Samsung monitor today, its the S22C300H. Although it's a domestic monitor, I wanted to be able to use it on shoots too. It's full HD / 1080p and has an HDMI input. Although not the most rugged piece of kit to take on location I figured it would be fine for more controlled environments where you have a few clients wanting to see a shot.

The problem is, when I plug my C300 in via HDMI, the camera doesn't detect the monitor as a full HD device and therefore automatically scales down it's output to SD, resulting in a really awful picture. According to the C300 manual when using HDMI "the output signal will automatically switch to HD or SD depending on the capability of the external monitor" (page 129). The problem is the Samsung is a full HD monitor. I have plugged other devices in to it and it displays them well at 1080. Similarly, I can plug my C300 into my Sony TV, and it outputs at full HD.

Any suggestions anyone?

C300 for documentary work?

I'm primarily interested in documentary work and I was wondering what others' opinions are of how well-suited this camera is to documentary shooting. I've done all my documentary type work on a 7D so I feel that it would be a similar technique and workflow.

Or, what else will you use it for? Low-budget narrative, high-budget narrative (compliment to Alexa)? Reality shows?

Firmware update Canon?

According to HDVideoPro magazine in the October issue here is some info on the Sony FS700U. The paragraph is titled THE UPGRADE, and it is as follows... "The biggest difference between the FS700Y and the FS100U is the inclusion of a 3G HD-SDI BNC Out, which eventually will propel the camera to a much wider range of professional users. Sony soon will offer a firmware upgrade that will enable your FS700U to output a 4K RAW signal, in addition to releasing an affordable 4K recorder that will have the ability to record the massive files. The timing of the FS700U firmware and the exact pricing and availability of the 4K recorder are being determined, but an announcement is expected soon." Ok everyone this camera will capture 60, 120 and 240 fps and 1080 all for $8K. We paid double the amount for the c300 and we only get 720p at 60fps? It is a beautiful image, but that's all we get? I hope Canon is reading this as I'm no engineer, but it would seem to me and possibly a lot of other people that a firmware update should be able to give us some if not all of those additional frame rates. Someone please comment on this.
